Passionate Seamstress

I am Donna Goldbeck and my passion for all types of sewing gave way to Golden Rule Creations LLC more than 10 years ago. I have a smoke and pet-free studio in Glendale, AZ where all the magic happens. I am licensed within the state of Arizona and the city of Glendale. I'm also a proud member of Arizona Quilters Guild.

Prepare quilt

Top

  • · Mark the top center with small label or safety pin.
  • · Make sure all loose threads are clipped on front and back of top. Use roller to pick up all loose threads or animal hair.
  • · Please watch a YouTube video that explains the proper way to attach borders so they are not wavy. Jenny Doan 'Adding Borders'.
  • · Please watch a YouTube video on how to square up top and back.
  •   Make sure the quilt top lays flat. If the top is flared or has extra fullness, it may cause tucks to be quilted in.
  •   For quilts that don't have outer borders, run a 1/8" seam all the way around the quilt, this helps to prevent "splitting at the seams".
  • · Turn your quilt top over and make sure the seams lie flat.
  •    Press top using ample spray starch.

 Back

  • · Mark the top center with small label or safety pin
  • · If there are seams in back, please press open.
  • · Make backing 4” larger on all 4 sides than top.
  • · Press using ample spray starch.

Client supplied batting

  • · If you are choosing to not purchase batting from me and are bringing your own batting, remove batting from package and spray with water. Place in dryer on air dry to remove wrinkles.
  • · Make batting 4” larger on all 4 sides than top.
  • · Mark the top center with small label or safety pin.

Prepare your T-shirt Quilt for Long Arming.

Top

  • · Make sure all loose threads are clipped on front and back of top.
  • · If there are t-shirts in the quilt that have a button down placket, remove the buttons, take placket apart, and make it only two layers instead of four (the major thickness is very hard on the long arm machine and could throw off the timing).
  • Sew edges of placket down so the hopping foot cannot get caught in it.
  • Remove all very thick lettering or other decorations – they can be reattached after quilt has been long-armed.
